Shepherd Center specializes in treating the patient, as well as the patient’s family members. We help ease the burden with: - Complimentary housing for families during rehabilitation stay - Family training on all aspects of patient care - Psychological counseling for families and patients - Pastoral support - Peer support groups Specialty Rehabilitation Programs Shepherd Center has specialized treatment teams that are dedicated to: - Adolescent patients - Adult patients - Senior patients (age 50 and older) - Ventilator-dependent patients - Critical Care Patients (transfer from your ICU to our ICU) - Patients with a dual diagnosis of spinal cord and brain injury - Patients who require medical/surgical care Comprehensive Post-Acute Continuum - SCI, ABI Day Programs - Diaphragm Pacing Stimulation Types of Patients to Refer - Patients with spinal cord injuries - Patients with acquired brain injuries (including low level with signs of emerging) - Has strong possibility to return home - Could benefit from functional training Patient Populations - Adolescent patients (age 12 and older) - Senior patients (age 50 and older) - Ventilator dependent patients - Patients transferred from ICU to Shepherd Center ICU - Patients with a dual diagnosis of spinal cord and brain injury - Patients who require medical/surgical care Diagnoses Appropriate for Shepherd Center Shepherd Center offers acute to post-acute medical and rehabilitation treatment to patients with a new injury or a recent onset of illness for the following diagnoses: Traumatic spinal cord injury for patients age 12 and older that has resulted in: - Paraplegia - Tetraplegia - High tetraplegia (including ventilator-dependent patients) Non-traumatic spinal cord injuries, including: - Transverse myelitis - Guillian-Barré syndrome - Spinal cord infarction Acquired brain injury for patients ages 12-65 including: - Traumatic brain injury - Encephalitis - Anoxia Tumor - Stroke patients (age 65 and younger) - Patients who are semi-comatose or minimally conscious - Dual diagnosis (spinal cord and brain injury)
