Therapy Careers at Shepherd Center
Shepherd Center offers rewarding careers for therapists in a number of inpatient programs, day programs and outpatient clinics, as well as in other roles. Rehabilitation programs include spinal cord injury, brain injury, multiple sclerosis and other neurological injuries or illnesses.
We encourage therapists to explore employment opportunities as valued members of our Therapy Team. Our orientation program includes:
Mentor Program
Each new therapist is assigned a mentor for one-on-one support and guidance throughout the orientation period. This professional relationship also extends throughout the new employee's career at Shepherd Center. Our therapists will always have a mentor resource available. Shepherd's new employees have an extensive orientation period, featuring both clinical and classroom experience, as well as a minimum of four weeks of training prior to assuming independent leadership of a patient team. You will also have the benefit of working in an environment in which all the therapy managers are also clinicians.
Educational and Research Opportunities
Shepherd Center believes that your professional development is important. We are proud to offer educators and supervisors who are dedicated to working with each member of the therapy team to ensure professional development. Shepherd Center offers funds that are designated specifically for continuing education, professional development and tuition reimbursement (for classes attended after employment begins.) Our therapists are encouraged to explore and cross-train with other disciplines by shadowing experts in their fields. You will also have the chance to participate in research-based practice, as well as opportunities to attend in-house educational workshops.
Equipment Availability
Our therapists have access to state-of-the-art tools that are necessary for a successful rehabilitation. With an on-site seating clinic, an assistive technology clinic, and a patient equipment fund sponsored by donors, patients are able to obtain needed resources to assist re-entry into their homes and communities. Shepherd Center also supports research endeavors in the area of new technology and equipment to further advance patients in their recovery.
Professional Career Paths
Therapists participate in a program designed by Shepherd staff for professional growth and development called the "Five-Tier Professional Ladder." The program offers opportunities specifically for therapists that encourage goal-development and growth in the areas of research, clinical specialty, education and management development.
