Shepherd Center and Humana Military Healthcare Services Launch SHARE Initiative Shepherd Center and Humana Military Healthcare Services have partnered with Home Depot co-founder and philanthropist Bernie Marcus to help wounded U.S. military service members and their families obtain additional care to promote their recovery from combat-related injuries. The program, called the SHARE Initiative, is for military men and women who were wounded during their service in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, as well as their families. What is the SHARE Initiative? The SHARE Initiative is a service offered at Shepherd Center to promote optimal recovery for injured service members. Goals of SHARE are to: • Provide a continuum of rehabilitation evaluation and treatment services for those who have sustained brain injury, spinal cord injury or blast injury • Assist, support and educate service members and their families during recovery and beyond • Compile data that is beneficial to policy and legislative change to provide for unfunded services
SH ARE is a Collaborative Effort Between: • Bernie Marcus – Home Depot co-founder and benefactor of the SHARE Initiative • Shepherd Center – Recognized as one of the top 10 rehabilitation hospitals in the nation by U.S. News & World Report • Humana Military Healthcare Services – Administrator of the Department of Defense’s TRICARE South Region contract for health benefits for members of the military and their dependents • Community and civic organization supporters SH ARE Criteria • Injured while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan • Have a diagnosis of brain injury and/or spinal cord injury • Have a discharge plan • Have an identified caregiver Shepherd Center Rehabilitation Continuum • ICU • Inpatient medical/rehabilitation care • Minimally conscious (coma) program • Day programs • Outpatient services • Residential care • Community re-entry • Supported living • Respite care • Wellness program Onsite Medical Staff: Specialty Areas

This allows for a smooth referral, admission and treatment process. Timely and efficient care coordination permits the injured service member to receive specialty care and education.
