ATLANTA - (May 8, 2008) - Veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces will be honored at the Williamsburg at Dunwoody Shopping Center on Saturday, May 17, 2008 during the Eighth Annual Mayfest Celebration.
Located at the intersection of Mt. Vernon and Jett Ferry Roads in Dunwoody, the shopping center offers great shopping and dining from over twenty-five merchants.
Contributions and proceeds generated from the day’s activities (games, food, raffles, and music) will be donated to Shepherd Center’s SHARE Initiative, a program which helps wounded U.S. military service members recover from combat-related injuries.
All veterans are invited to attend this special day and if possible wear their uniform. Name tags will be provided to all veterans. Mayfest activities will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Veteran’s Recognition Program begins at noon. Music will be provided by The Dunwoody Baptist Church Orchestra. The program will feature presentations by the Chamblee Charter High School Drum Line and the Dunwoody AFJ ROTC Color Guard.
This is an opportunity for the people of Dunwoody and neighboring communities to come out in large numbers and express thanks to these special men and women. A large turnout of veterans is expected, including an 87-year-old Navy veteran, whose ship, The USS Yorktown, was torpedoed in 1944, and a 43-year-old Marine who is home from the Iraqi War.
