Floyd C. Newton III Assumes Role as Foundation Board Chair

ATLANTA - Floyd C. Newton III has assumed the role of Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Shepherd Center Foundation, beginning April 1. Newton was a charter trustee for the Foundation and has served the past two years under the leadership of C. Duncan Beard.

Originally from Griffin, Ga., Newton is a graduate of the Westminster Schools. Following high school, he graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University with a degree in economics, and went on to receive his Jurist Doctor degree magna cum laude from the University of Georgia in 1980. Newton, a bond attorney, joined King & Spalding in 1980 and was elected partner in 1987. He is currently a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers, for which he served as President in 1999.

For the third consecutive year, Newton was listed in the 2007 edition of The Best Lawyers in America and was also recognized in the 2006 “Georgia Super Lawyers” list published by Law & Politics Magazine and Atlanta Magazine. His practice areas include: Financial Services, Healthcare Industry, Infrastructure Finance and Development, Project & Equipment Finance and Public Finance. Newton has worked on a wide variety of corporate transactions and financings for various non-profit entities, including the University of Georgia Foundation.

Newton and his wife, Katrina, are members of All Saints’ Episcopal Church, where Newton served as Chancellor. Newton also serves as the Vice President of Endowment for the Atlanta Area Council of the Boys Scouts and is a past board member of The Academy Theatre and Rhodes Hall. Newton’s ties to Shepherd Center go back to 1983 when he first attended Derby Day and began a long history of support.

With this next role, Newton will serve a two-year term as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Shepherd Center Foundation. Building upon the progress the Foundation has made thus far under C. Duncan Beard’s leadership, Newton will help lead the Shepherd Center Foundation during a time when Shepherd Center will experience significant growth in its facilities, patient services and research efforts.

The Foundation will play a key role in the Center’s future by helping to provide the financial resources, strategic planning and vision that will keep Shepherd Center among the pre-eminent catastrophic care hospitals in the world.
