Counseling

A psychologist or counselor is part of each patient's care team at Shepherd Center. Counseling seeks to:

Facilitate emotional adjustment to physical loss and the resulting life changes associated with catastrophic injuries

Encourage peer support and contact during a patient's hospital stay and after discharge

Provide grief education to patients and their families

Recommend psychological services after discharge for both patients and family members

Help a patient reach the highest degree of independence possible

Our counseling staff also offers patients the following services when needed:

Individual, family, couples and group psychotherapy

Alcohol and drug awareness group

Alcohol and drug assessment

Sexuality education and counseling (individual and/or group)
