Shepherd Research

Shepherd Center is a leader in research focusing on interventions that could lead to the best health and functional outcomes for people who have experienced a brain injury, including:

  • Medications to help people with brain injuries participate more in their therapies and recover better.
  • Leaning which bedside assessment scales are best for evaluating patients who have disorders of consciousness.
  • Exploring which functional, psychological and social factors are most likely to place a patient at risk for a poor rehabilitation outcome and/or difficulty transitioning home.
  • Identifying what resources are needed in the first year after a brain injury to maximize a person’s return to the community and an improved quality of life.
