Outpatient Brain Injury Programs

Shepherd Pathways is a comprehensive, community-based rehabilitation program for people recovering from brain injury. It is a program of Shepherd Center, one of the top-ranked facilities in the nation for medical treatment, research, and rehabilitation for people with brain or spinal cord injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, spine and chronic pain, and other neuromuscular conditions. We offer different types of outpatient brain injury services, including several specialty programs.

Our specialty outpatient brain injury programs include:

Adolescent and Young Adult Brain Injury Program

This program is specifically designed for adolescents and young adults who have experienced an acquired brain injury. Emphasis is on age-appropriate treatment, education, peer support, outings, family and sibling support, neuropsychological interventions and return to school.

Center for Diagnostic Evaluations

The Center provides evaluations for people needing an assessment of their functional capabilities for legal reasons or to coordinate care for people with more complex problems. Each evaluation is individualized based on the need of the client and/or their representative.

Vestibular Rehabilitation

This program offers evaluations for individuals who sustain a head injury and display symptoms of dizziness and imbalance related to the interruption of the vestibular system (inner ear). A physical therapist provides treatment to reduce the symptoms of dizziness and improve balance and walking. This treatment helps the person achieve their maximum level of independence.

Dysphagia Program

The specialized Swallowing (Dysphagia) Program meets the needs of people who have mild to complex swallowing problems. Neurological injury/disease or direct trauma to the swallowing mechanism may cause swallowing problems. Learn more about the swallowing disorder outpatient clinic at Shepherd Center.
