The Shepherd Center Photo Contest

Shepherd Center invites you to take part in an exciting new photography exhibit for patients, families and visitors at the Center.

The Shepherd Center Photography Project is a photo contest in which the selected photographs will be displayed in a permanent exhibit to be housed in Shepherd Center’s new Jane Woodruff Pavilion.

In keeping with the mission of Shepherd Center, the theme of our photography contest is A New Outlook on the World. We are looking for remarkable images, photographed within the past three years, which expose the viewer to the world in a new light.

Photos will be judged and selected by Julian Cox, curator of photography at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, and Jane Jackson, curator of the Sir Elton John Photography Collection.

About Shepherd Center

Shepherd Center is an Atlanta-based private, not-for-profit hospital devoted to the care and rehabilitation of people with spinal cord injury and disease, acquired brain injury, multiple sclerosis and other neuromuscular conditions.

Our mission is to help people who have experienced a catastrophic injury or disease, which has resulted in a temporary or permanent disability, rebuild their lives with dignity, hope and independence, advocating for their full inclusion in all aspects of community life.

For more than three decades, Shepherd Center has been rebuilding hope in people going through very difficult and life-changing experiences. Rehabilitation at Shepherd is not about lamenting things lost. It is about pushing the limits, creating new ways of achieving personal goals and seeing life in a whole new way. In essence, we help our patients leave Shepherd with a new outlook on the world.

About the Jurors

Julian Cox is curator of photography at the High Museum of Art, Atlanta. He was previously employed at the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, where he was an associate curator in the department of photographs. In 2003, she sold her Atlanta-based gallery, Jackson Fine Art, to work closely with Elton to maintain and further develop his renowned collection of modernist and contemporary photographs. She has previously served as Vice-President of AIPAD and on the Executive Committee of the Atlanta College of Art and currently serves on the international board of the Center for Creative Photography.
