Jamie Shepherd, MBA, MHA, is the chief operating officer at Shepherd Center. Jamie, the son of Shepherd Center co-founder, the late James H. Shepherd, Jr., follows in his family’s footsteps by contributing to Shepherd Center’s mission of helping people with a temporary or permanent disability caused by injury or disease rebuild their lives with hope, independence and dignity.
As COO, Jamie has the responsibility and authority for the administrative direction, evaluation and coordination of clinical operations. He provides the leadership, management, and strategic vision necessary to ensure Shepherd Center has the proper processes and resources to effectively optimize the hospital's clinical operations, leading to financial strength and operating efficiency.
Jamie also oversees the hospital’s community services and risk management functions. In his community services role, Jamie provides guidance and support to patients and their families after discharge by engaging them in programs that promote health, wellness and independence, aiding in reducing unplanned readmissions and their associated costs.
Jamie is a founding member of the Shepherd Center Society and a board member of Shepherd Center. He also serves as a representative of the hospital at numerous fundraisers and within the community.
Jamie previously served as a strategic project analyst at Shepherd Center, reporting directly to the chief financial officer and the director of quality. In this role, he was part of the financial team that creates, analyzes and reconciles budgets for all hospital departments. Before joining Shepherd Center, Jamie was the executive vice president at Rogers Bridge Company.
Jamie received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Georgia. He earned master’s degrees in business administration and health administration from Georgia State University. In 2019, the Atlanta Business Chronicle named Jamie as a part of their 40 Under Forty. He was part of the Georgia Highway Contractors Association Executive Development Program and “Leadership GHA” through the Georgia Hospital Association. Jamie is a board member for Plant Improvement Company and an advisory board member for Blaze Sports America. He is a member of Piedmont Driving Club, Burge Club, the Nine O’Clocks and Peachtree Presbyterian Church, where he teaches Sunday school alongside his wife. He also serves as a volunteer breakfast feeder for patients at Shepherd Center.
Outside of work, Jamie enjoys hunting, fishing, attending University of Georgia football games and spending time with his wife and their four children and coaching their sports teams.
