Tamara N. Thompson, DNP, RN, MPH, MA
Chief Compliance Officer
Tamara N. Thompson, DNP, RN, MPH, MA, is the chief compliance officer, and is responsible for overseeing and managing compliance and business ethics within the organization, ensuring that Shepherd Center and its employees are complying with regulatory requirements and with internal policies and procedures.
Before joining Shepherd in 2009 as the clinical nurse auditor, Tamara provided leadership in community nursing, finance, education, case management, compliance and clinical informatics at Mercy Care, Grady Hospital, Emory University, Assertive Community Recovery, and University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics serving in various roles such as compliance director, director of nursing, program manager and educational coordinator.
Tamara is a lifelong learner and believes that is an essential trait for any compliance professional. She received her bachelor of science in biology from Hampton University, bachelor of science in nursing from the University of West Georgia, master of public health and master of health education from the University of Iowa, and master of science in nursing from Georgia State University. She then received her doctorate of nursing practice from the University of Alabama (summa cum laude). Tamara also serves as adjunct faculty within the University System of Georgia.
Tamara holds memberships and is very active in AHIA (American Healthcare Internal Auditors Association ), GHA (Georgia Health Association) Compliance Officer Roundtable, HCCA/SCCE (Health Care Compliance Association/Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics) and regularly provides free health care compliance and audit consulting for small, local nonprofit organizations. Tamara also sits on the Advisory Board for Hospitals for Humanity.
Tamara enjoys quality time with her husband, family and friends, exploring the outdoors, walking and 5K activities, performing volunteer work, and experimenting with fashion and interior design.
