Shepherd Center's Wheelchair Division of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race Wheelchair Division
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race will return in person for one day of racing on Monday, July 4, 2022. Also returning is Shepherd Center’s Wheelchair Division, which will host the best wheelchair racers in the world.
The race was virtual in 2020 and then split into two days of racing in 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
This year, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race will award up to $53,000 in bonus prize money to foot racers and wheelchair athletes who break an event record at the race’s 53rd running on July 4. The prize purse will be split if multiple first place racers break an event record from the open men and women of the foot race and wheelchair division, but if only one racer breaks the event record, that individual will take home the entire purse. Any male or female winner of the foot race or Shepherd Center's Wheelchair Division who tops the best times in the Elite Open Men and Elite Open Women divisions will be awarded —on top of prize money — a $7,500 prize money in honor of the 53rd running.
The bonus prizes at this year’s race for both foot and wheelchair racers further demonstrates the commitment of Shepherd Center and the Atlanta Track Club to promoting equality among elite runners and wheelchair athletes.
