Shepherd Center’s outpatient rehabilitation program for people recovering from brain injury is located at Shepherd Pathways. Located in Decatur, Ga., about five miles from Shepherd Center, Shepherd Pathways provides a full continuum of care that is focused on community re-entry, which for many people means returning to home, work or a supported, community-living environment.
Our continuum of community-based care incorporates everything from medical management and nursing to different types of therapy, including, physical, occupational and speech/language therapy, as well as individual and family counseling, and life skills therapy and training.
About Shepherd Pathways
Shepherd Pathways is supported by highly trained doctors and specialized rehabilitation teams to treat people with neurologic diagnosis including:
- Traumatic brain injury (TBI)
- Non-traumatic brain injury (encephalopahy, anoxia)
- Dual diagnosis (SCI and BI)
Our services fall under three types of programs:
- A comprehensive community reentry day program
- Several programs and services available on an outpatient basis
- A short-term respite care program
The Day Program continues your rehabilitation track from an inpatient program or from the community and provides ongoing assessment and therapeutic intervention.
The Residential Program offers a 12 bed facility with full supervision for those who cannot live alone or with family. This program provides day therapy as well as weeknight and weekend activities.
Shepherd Pathways is often called upon to provide expertise in one aspect of care or evaluation on an outpatient basis. Patients may come for only one service during a period of time or they may return for other services as necessary, even years after their original illness or injury.
In addition, Shepherd Pathways offers supported living services, such as short term respite care, which provides temporary support for caregivers of people with brain injury. Lengths of stay can range from 1-30 days.
