      Tommy L. Owens, D.D.S.
      Dentist

      Dr. Tommy L. Owens is a dental

      consultant on the medical staff at

      Shepherd Center. Raised in Newnan,

      Georgia, Dr. Owens was a Captain in

      the U.S. Army Dental Corps. He is a

      member of the American Dental

      Association and the Northern District

      Dental Society, for which has served as Secretary and Vice President. He has also served as past President and Chairman of the Thomas P. Hinman Dental Society. He is a past President of the Georgia Academy of Dental Practice, is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, as well as a member of the International College of Dentists.

He is an honorable fellow with the Georgia Dental Association and is a member of the Pierre Fauchard Academy. He has served as Director of Dental Services for the Goodwill Games in St. Petersburg, Russia (1994), as Dental Consultant for the Winter Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway (1994), and as Director of Dental Services for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in our hometown of Atlanta.

Dr. Owens has served as the President of the Dental Alumni Association for Emory University, and as a member of the Board of Governors for the Emory Alumni Association. He is a past Chairman and current member of the Oxford College of Emory University Board of Counselors and is a recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award—Oxford College.

Dr. Owens is a past President of the American Cancer Society’s Atlanta City Unit, a member of the Georgia Division of the American Cancer Society, and past President of the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society. He is Head Coach and National Training Coordinator of the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training program. He is a motivational speaker at numerous marathon pre-race dinners.

He has served on the boards of the Northside YMCA, the Atlanta Track Club and the Georgia Foundation of Athletic Excellence. He served for 21 years as the start coordinator of the Peachtree Road Race. And he is a member of the American Medical Athletic Association. He is currently Director of Operations for the ING Georgia Marathon.
